अमन्त्रम् अक्षरं नास्ति नास्ति मूलमनौषदम् ।
अयोग्यः पुरुषो नास्ति योजकस्तत्र दुर्लभः ॥

अमन्त्रम् – non chantable (non pronunciable)   ,   अक्षरं – letter   ,   नास्ति – does not exist

Actual Meaning :

In this universe there isn’t non-useful thing, Writer gives examples ;  there isn’t exist any non-chantable letter, roots of every plant always has some medical properties , every person is deserving for some work, finding that good point is difficult and people who do so are rare.

परोपकाराय – for doing favours   ,   फलन्ति – bear fruits   ,   वृक्षाः – trees

वहन्ति – flows   ,   नद्यः – river   ,   गावः – cow   ,   दुहन्ति – give milk

शरीरम् – body


Trees bear fruits for doing favours, River flows for doing favours.

cow give milk for doing favours, this body is for doing favours.


Actual Meaning :

Writer writes the purpose of having this body by giving examples; Trees bear fruits for others, River also flows for helping others, cow also gives milk for others all of them do favours on others by consuming themselves like that humans have body which should be used for doing favours on others.




क्षणशः कणशश्चैव विद्यामर्थं च साधयेत् ।
क्षण त्यागे कुतो विद्या कणत्यागे कुतो धनम् ॥

kshanashah kanashashchaiv vidyamartham ch sadhyet.

kshan tyage kuto vidya kanatyage kuto dhanam.


Meaning  by words :

क्षणशः – moment by moment   ,   कण – particle/bit   ,   विद्याम् – knowledge

अर्थम् – money   ,   च – and   ,   साधयेत् – accomplish/achieve   ,   त्यागः – abandon/renounce

कुतः – from where


moment by moment and bit by bit; knowledge and money should be gained.

how can you gain knowledge by  wasting time, how can you gain money by wasting a bit (from resources).


Actual Meaning :

Knowledge should be gained at every moment and money should be gained by utilizing every little bit of resource. if you waste time how will you earn knowledge and if you waste bits of your resources it will be difficult to gather good amount of money.

Favours on lowly person



उपकारो हि नीचानां अपकरो हि जायते ।
पयःपानं भुजंगाणां केवलं विषवर्धनम् ॥





Pronunciation :

Upkaro hee nichanam apkaro hee jayate.

payahpanam bhujanganam kevalam vishavardhanam.


Meaning  by words :

उपकारो – favour   ,   नीच – lowly person   ,   अपकरो – negative favour

जायते – going to   ,   पयः – milk   ,   पानं – feeding   ,   भुजंग – snake

केवलं – only   ,   विष – poison  ,   वर्धनम् – increasing


Doing favour on lowly person goes as negative favour.

feeding milk to snake is only increasing poison.


Actual Meaning :

Doing favour on lowly and undeserving person is going to be bad favour or wastage of time. Writer gives an example that feeding milk to snakes always results in increase in their poison.
